ODA Drawings SDK update supports ReCap files for point cloud use

The latest update to Drawings SDK from the Open Design Alliance adds support for Autodesk ReCap files, a common standard format for embedding point cloud data into CAD drawings and models.

“ODA members can now create indexed ReCap files from arbitrary point cloud data and embed them in .dwg,” says Neil Peterson, ODA President. The update also supports fast visualization with level of detail (LOD). ODA says a twenty-five gigabyte .rcp file with one billion points can be loaded and visualized in under four seconds.

The new Drawings release also implements production support for ODA’s Common Data Access (CDA) API. CDA allows model hierarchy and property data for .dwg and .dgn to be accessed through a single API, making it convenient to build universal tools that work with multiple data formats in a common manner. With this update, CDA is now available for working with IFC as well as Autodesk Revit and Navisworks files.

There are also additional features in Drawings 2020u2 including enhancements to .DGN threading support, improvements to the ODA geometry sub-system, and fixes for several hundred member-reported issues. The SDK and full release notes are available for download at www.opendesign.com.
