Graphisoft extends BIMcloud messaging to mobile
The takeaway
Social media has forever changed the nature of communications. People know they can be connected to their friends all the time, and they want the same flexibility and freedom in their work relationships. With integrated team messaging in BIMcloud, Graphisoft is providing it for design-build teams.
Our opinion
Graphisoft started thinking out of the box in 1984 when they released the first 3D architectural CAD product on the new Macintosh computer, and they have been thinking out of the box regarding architectural workflow ever since. This is a CAMS innovation.
The details
Graphisoft has updated BIMcloud, its model-based BIM collaboration platform, adding integrated team messaging for mobile devices. The update allows non-users of Graphisoft’s ArchiCAD to participate in sending and receiving instant messages with annotated model views to the entire project team.

Graphisoft launched BIMcloud earlier this year, to enable cloud-based collaboration for design-build projects. Architects use ArchiCAD for design, while other stakeholders (such as owners, subcontractors, construction management) can access project information using Graphisoft’s BIMx Docs app. With the update, external team members can now participate in on-going discussion within the BIMcloud environment as well as review and annotate models.
Currently the update allows iOS users (iPad, iPhone) to use instant messaging; Graphisoft says the Android version will be available soon.
